A brave man who can face a ghost and send her back into the darkness, after seeing her those past years. This is a really lovely poem, JLR, you set the scene perfectly. The mist, turning to fog. The two bells at the exact time, the smell of seaweed over the graveyard stones. All excellent reading. Well done and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx

A very cool sea ghost story poem! I like the bravery and calm of the night watchman. Hope you do well in the contest!

Suggestions:
nightwatchman's bones on this All Hallows' Eve. (night watchman's)
'til next Allhalloween." (All Hallow's Eve)

Dear JLR, this is indeed an excellent entry into a Halloween contest. The subject is arresting, and haunting too, because it sounds as if her visits, happened every year which makes it all the more scary.
I am glad the watchman, who has met her before, knows just what to say.
A wonderful free verse poem, executed with great craftsmanship.

I'm not a fan of Halloween Stories but took a chance with yours
You captured my attention from the art work you choose to go with your poem, they are a perfect match.
I hope I'm able to sleep at night

The night watchman's annual visitor
Graveyard by the sea
by JLR

Hello, JLR,

I love Halloween. Excellent entry for the Halloween Poetry contest. Nice alliteration with the 'whisper of wind weaving'

love these stanzas.....

"....soft light bleed into heavy dark shadows....love the imagery and poetic writing...."

creepy...

"...the sudden quake
felt in the time-worn hands
of this trusted sentinel
of the graveyard by the seashore..."

Well done, I wish you well in the contest.

A scary sea faring story here and ghosts have long been the fear of sailors as the sea has taken so many lives. A fine presentation for Halloween, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

You should win the Halloween poetry contest for sure, Bill. Wanna bet? I think this poem is that good.

"She appeared,
as if floating just above the
pebble laden pathway
with her arms outstretched
fingers on both hands signaling
an invitation to
come - come here..."

Worthy of six stars, but I have no more.

Take care and good health, my friend. Bob

I believe eve is capital in "All Hallows Eve" and I'm not sure if "Allhalloween" is even a real word in that last sentence. That being said this is a great poem perfect for the Halloween season.
