Hi Dean--
I certainly agree with your premise regarding "dark poetry," or writing period.

I'm a bit put off by your...Gothic? lingo, that's probably not the right word, but may covey what I mean. The dark does not necessarily have to be cloaked in the trappings of old Bram Stoker novels, cob webs, creaking doors, etc.

Thanks, I may post a "chapter" here. I'll see what's involved and what I have ready.

Best

Hahaha, well, some of the language used may be a bit too archaic for some tastes, Jeff. But, as this poem suggests, we are free to express our thoughts as we see fit, regardless of what others may or may not think. And, I will always continue to do so, as I'm sure you will.

The book is always open for submissions, at least as long as people want to keep reading the work presented. I had several who wanted to add poetry to Tiny Tales of Terror, but have had to explain that series is for micro and flash horror fiction prose only--no exceptions. Poetry is strictly verboten. Hence, my creation of this outlet for those who feel a desire to exorcise their own demons. After all, why should I have all the fun?

Thanks again for reading and commenting on my work, Jeff.

As always, this offering is excellent. You have a gift of immediately transporting the reader into the center of your created fray. We then question our own 'myopic musings' and the consequences of letting loose our own 'thoughts.' I think some of our thoughts might be better caged than allowed to run amidst the weak of heart. Like Pandora's box, some of our closest held thoughts should be left under lock and key. Terrific writing Spooky. AT=/

You're right to a certain extent of course, AT. However, I would personally rather drag those dark thoughts from out of the shadows kicking a screaming into the light to expose them for the wretched things they are, rather to allow them to remain inside and fester. Expunging such thoughts is a liberating experience for me. To allow them to remain caged up, walled inside, would be extremely dangerous to everyone around me.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read and comment, and for the six stars as well. As always, I deeply appreciate you and your time.

Very Deep and Disturbing.

Awesome, of course!

You touch a vein (or artery) of truth that bleeds throughout anyone's life and death.

Here's a mop to contain the blood, until creatures of the night arrive with their thirst and crusty tongues lapping up their crimson hydration.

Terrific Poem, Dean!

Thanks again for reading and commenting, Bill. I've always been of the mind that to die with our thoughts left unexposed was very depressing. After all, why did poets like Poe, Frost, Dickinson and Countee Cullen write such darkly depressing, moribund morbid thoughts for all to read?

Simply because they had to in order to purge their souls.

Writing dark poetry is a liberating experience, but one which should never be taken lightly. You never know the how the influence of your words might affect someone.

Thanks again for the exceptional rating and comments, Bill.

Hi Dean,

How poignant this is! Jotting down thoughts is as necessary to a writer as breathing.

If someone has never read any of your work, they could understand a little bit about you through this well crafted piece.

Thoughts should not be kept in cages in a magnificent line.

Although I don't write horror, this poem spoke to me very much. Even the background music was carefully chosen to set a mood of introspection.

Hugs,
Lou

Thank you very mich, Lou. I try never to post anything --be it poetry or prose--if I feel I don't have something significant to convey, or can at least be entertaining. Without good people like yourself who care enough to read what I've written, what would be the point? So, I always do my very best to give you the best bang for your buck. After all, I feel t's the very least I can do.
Thanks again for reading and commenting. I deeply appreciate your readership as well as your valuable time. Those shimmering six stars are just the icing on an already sweet review.

Your entire poem is very well done and I enjoyed reading it. There are some excellent lines here:
"Thoughts should not be kept in cages."
"Myopic musings--full of angst." (angst/flanks - great combo)
"Arcane chants from far off places,
terror whitewashed tiny faces."
I equally enjoyed your author's note (as I always do) which allows the reader a glimpse into the mind/thoughts of Dean.

I think I'll try to send you a chapter. This looks like a very good start for a book
of eerie rhymes. How could you use flanks without the next line ending in rear...
knowing what behind you doth softly tread? I know, trite, trite. Excellent.

I'm not sure what it all means, but it seems both touching and frightening all at once. Hopefully all of our thoughts will be recorded so that what we felt will be remembered. The picture is definitely quite frightening, and the music is a nice touch. Evi

All I'm really saying here, Evi, is you should always feel free to express yourself as you see fit, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
One day, we'll all end up in a cushy coffin and be silenced forever...at least here, in this realm.
Thank you so much for your generous six stars, and your thoughtful comments.

Dean,

This is a very interesting poem...although a bit dark and intense, it also has a gentleness as well as a compelling message and presentation. I think it has
an incredibly smooth flow and your aabb rhymes were also perfectly crafted.

Loved the music to go along with it and found this to be outstanding,
Linda

What can be said, but awesome, awesome, and awesome. I loved reading your dark, dark poem. Your soul was revealed awe for a moment! Loved this poem.. To deny our dark side is simply a lie and you have shown the reader how to display our other side..

Oh yes. I tell people all the time, "WRITE IT DOWN". Don't worry about sentence structure or punctuation for it is for your thoughts. Seize the moment as it comes for when you're dead it is done.
A very good first chapter, Dean for your new book.
Keep reminding us how precious life is (even though your demons and goblins take it away).
