What a lovely poem that honors "Frosty". I don't know much about horses but
it sounds like he was your best friend. Thanks for sharing this poem and I know you have many memories to treasure.

Thanks Kay, much appreciated.
For as I grow older and my days are numbered
I look for memories of the past to cling to
For past memories take away the pain.
Cheers, kev.

This is a heart touching "ode" to the beloved Frosty. Your poem is heartfelt, pouring out emotions and love for one's horse. Frosty sound as if she was tamed, strong and gentle. The poem has a nice flow, telling a good but sad story. Thanks for sharing your poem.

I so want a horse to ride. You and Abby Wilson Hand write the best stories that make the reader want to hit the trails. It is amazingly done and written. Beautiful horse.

Your words are a beautiful tribute to your horse. An enjoyable read. I understand how attached one gets to a horse. I had mine for several years, and he was truly my friend. If ever an animal had a soul- I believe it would be horse. I am sorry for your loss.

Hi yas Kev. Excellent poem in tribute to your Palomino, Frosty. It sounds like you selected the right name for this beauty.
Ha sounds like you are going to have interesting stories to tell about hunting and kangaroos. We don't have any of those critters here.
So sad that Frosty snapped his shoulder struggling to get up.
Excellent imagery and a most touching story. I look forward to more.

Thanks Gloria, much appreciated that you have taken the time to review my poem, about my old friend Frosty.
I don't think I would get a good reception with my hunting stories, probably too controversial .
Cheers.

way2gokevs,
Wow, I so enjoyed reading your free verse poem about Frosty.
Your imagery within this and your descriptions of
Frosty's temperament, skills and physique was really well done.
I have to say this was sad to read in the end. So sorry
he had that accident that cost him his life...his life
cut shorter than it should have been.
I also appreciate your author notes. Is that a picture
of the real Frosty? He is beautiful! I believe my brother's
horse was named Frosty while growing up... he brought him
to Valley Forge Military Academy with him.
Anyway, I'm glad I stopped by,
Linda

Thanks very much Linda and yes that is Frosty in all his glory on a Kangaroo and Deer culling day in the Central Highlands.
He was such a placid horse with a nature that was exceptional. I still miss the bugger, we assume that he was startled by poachers shooting at deer from the road.
Thanks again Linda, you have a good day.
Cheers.

This doesn't really qualify as a poem. There is no meter, no rhyme, no word play whatsoever. All you do is tell a story in the form of a verse poem. The form doesn't make a poem, alone. A poem has other ingredients. This should be in the non-fiction section. That is something that you should consider. Tony Bronk

Sorry don't under-stand, to my way of thinking (I don't profess to be an expert) Frosty is a free verse poem and like many other poems I see on this site there is not much difference.
But thanks for reviewing and I am open to suggestions in improving my writing skills and finding information to all types of poetry. Not every poem is about rhyme and meter, there are many forms of poetry.
Cheers.

Old Sure footed Frosty sounds like one exceptional horse, Awt2GoKevs, and this was a nicely written tribute to him and his outstanding equine qualities.
Well done, sir!
