In my opinion, a love poem for the ages, beautifully constructed in its longing and requited love - a masterful wordsmith, with a penchant for lyric imagery and gentle seduction. I very much enjoyed the read...

Thank you very much for this unexpected review and the six stars. You must have dug deep into my portfolio to find this, one of my earliest free verse poems.

No, I didn't dig anywhere, Steve - it simply appeared when I clicked on "READ, read poetry and stories." Since I didn't know your work at all, I had no way of specifically seeking it out. Nevertheless, you are very welcome - my pleasure...Eve

I like the flow.
I like that it did not rhyme.
(I really don't think that love should rhyme,
though it may reason)
I don't think that love should be structured
And I'm glad this poem isn't structured
But the poem did draw on my emotions
I felt the rush of the falls and the passion of the spring
Love is like that.
It sometimes threatens to overwhelm
It often sweeps away that which will not stay put
It is only strong, though,
When it endures as a pond, enclosed by grass and trees
Or trapped by sluice gates and by valves
I did not see, at first, how city streets can marry rivers or falls
But city streets get wet, with dew, with drizzle, rain and floods.
Love endures that, too.
It makes no sense to review an all time best poem
But what makes it best, is not that everyone likes it
But that it stirs the mind and the heart to respond
Thank you for this poem.

Hi, and welcome again. I think I just posted on your profile...
Thanks for the great review. It always surprises me when someone digs up a piece like this that was posted quite some time ago. When you have been here a while, you will discover that 'All Time Best' is a rather confusing award that is handed out simply because a piece has a lot of reviews. It doesn't mean it is always really good! Anyway, I am glad you enjoyed this one, and I look forward to reading some of your work.

Thanks for the reply. I'm beginning to find that people care about ranking a whole lot around here. And you're right, ranking is confusing. Anyway, the best of luck to you.

Oh, kiwisteveh, if I had a six-star rating available, it would definitely go on this work. Very beautiful writing. Such incredible expressions of love for another that runs so deep and rich. Your well-chosen words move the reader into the most intimate piece of your heart for just a brief glance. Very, very excellent writing!!! God bless and hugs, Susanne

Thank you for the lovely review, Susanne. You must have delved well back into my portfolio to find this gem. Not too far though, because I didn't start writing in free verse until relatively recently.
Have a good day.

Hey, Dip, thanks for reviewing this and bringing it back to my attention. I must admit I had pretty well forgotten it existed, but I went and took a look and thought, 'This is pretty darn good!'
I am curious as to how you came across it, since it was posted in the middle of last year!

I was just searching the fanstory sight and looked up romance poetry that acquired an all time best badge and this one came up.

This is a beautiful love poem that insinuates its way into all our hearts throu the allitereatin on th S in what i will call the secomnd stanza. The poem creates superb imager from the city streets:
to the solitude
of the tree-swooned heart
of country roads
and peaceful fields.
What a beautiful stanza that is.
Very well crafted this.

I enjoyed your poem. It is full of great imagery from careful word choices. The artwork is awesome, too. Your words flow well. I like the contrasts in the many ways you state how you loved that special someone.
Good job. I see no changes.
Best wishes in the contest.
