What were, dear friend, true in 1962, truer are in 2013 and even beyond.
Your versatility and writing ability are not new born, but are of ancient times made.
Is it love itself that is "elusive and fickle and blind"? Or is it not man, by his own adamic nature--sin-riddled and fallen--that causes love aches?
Neighbours are afraid of each other. Strangers find no succour more on the streets. Greetings are hardly returned. Friendship and relationships are frost. Lust unseats love. Wife betrays hubby. Husbands cheat on his darling wife. Married, yet living single.
Things have fallen apart. Broken into pieces like shards of pottery.
How can we find love unfeigned in this world? Only yesterday here in Nigeria, it's reported in the dailies, that a two-old marriage was dissolved. For the wife said she's no longer in love with her husband. Only two days!! I can't just fathom the endless follies of this world. My mind can't comprehend it more.
The world whole is in a state of warpedness and mess without doubts.
A very brilliant and also thought-provoking poem. God bless.

Thank you for that heartfelt review and nice rating. I believe you are right, it is man's fallen nature.

I am so glad I read your beautifully written poem. If you wrote this in 1962, you have to be extremely shocked at how much more relevant it is today, decades later. Usually I read poems aloud, but this poem calls for serious thinking as I am reading, not because it is complex, but because it is deep and accurate even in today's times. I like the title. I like the questions that end each stanza and the honest answers that sometimes do. This is an excellent poem that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. There is one thing I wanted to add. "Druggest" should be "druggist."

You have said it best how warped this world has become.
It is disheartening to see where we are headed. Your
poem is still valid regarding the way we are headed.
I like the way you make it rhyme and still have a great
message. Thanks for sharing.

I've often pondered my existance on Earth, - I have to, and even though sometimes I don't wish to bring another into this world for fear of tainting them with disappointment, but at the same time, I want to share with them all the wonders this place has to offer :).
And it's "existence"
For love is elusive, fickle, and blind. - a certain type of love yes, but there are other forms more enduring and far more worth having, even if it's for a moment.

Extremely excellent my friend. It is existence in the first line. Incredible portrayal of the problems in this world. Keep up the great writing. This was a very meaningful poem to me as I share your sentiments. Well done you deserve the six stars.

Well you might have been in a dark and gloomy place but you were also very mouthy. Try to stop a poet from talking. You may as well just give up for they don't ever quit. You were right about it guy, and still are. Really makes one wonder, eh?

It most certainly is relevant today, as I sit listening to congress fight. A well written verse that is easy to follow and has a good punch at the end of each stanza. Good flow and very interesting. Good picture and color presentation. Robin :)

Thank you Robin. I was afraid it was too dark and depressing. Back then, I was going through some identity crisis issues. My father used to beat me bloody with a belt, and never passed an opportunity to tell me how stupid I was.

The problem was his for sure and not yours. You will never forget; however, you have risen above it. It shows in your lovely work. Robin :)

So much truth in this rant, however everything has a flip side, coins don't have two heads. It might help if the media focused more on the good than the bad, or if we looked to the spiritual for enlightenment instead of current events.
But is it worthwhile to bring up our sons,
The reason it is worthwhile, is that herein lies the hope of change. They will learn from our mistakes.
