Oh, Patrick...

Such attention to detail! I felt as if I were standing beside you taking this haunting scene in.

You offered: "Maybe it was always so around the remains of monumental figures of history."

Which monumental figures?

Wild guess: King Arthur, Lady Guiniverre and Lancelot?

This cries out to be developed into a story!

Possibly one little edit:

"...because when I shifted me gaze and then looked back at..."

----did you mean "my?"

This is a brilliantly written description that is literally *begging* for a story to explain what is going on. Clothed skeletons, in situ, as if they'd been holding court in this sepulcher at the moment of death.
Well done!

Thanks Julie! Quote the latin! "in situ." Impressive!

I think you tapped into our fears here to write this horror story and send shivers down our spine. Skulls in particular represent death and we all fear it, a fine post for the contest with the required chilling element, love Dolly x x x

An interesting depiction of a sepulcher, a chilling line for me was: "What I was feeling could just be the chill of very old death." Apparently, there is more to the story? Could be a chilling tale.
