Hi Aiona,
This is a well done haiku about the sad death of a tree by lightning.
It gives off strong images of a burned out tree. It also seems to use sap as blood of the tree.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

This is a wonderful haiku for the contest. I too did not know that the box elder could be chopped for syrup. That is quite a nice bit of information that you have given us. Thank you. Patricia.
