That's sad but also comforting that the mom is heading to the Light where she won't have any pain or sorrow. Just her loved ones will miss her while they remain on Earth.

I know that in times gone by, and even today the North Star is used to navigate sailors and explorers to safety, bring them home as it were. With someone on their final journey on earth, this might signify that the journey is to somewhere safe and beautiful. For many, this means heaven. Nicely written, these beautiful verses.
