I was holding my breath while reading and heaved a sigh of relief when Mathew Strait walked into the night. Hope he does not come bak He does not deserve to live ....

He does not. I am yet to find any redeeming quality about the man. Gretchen

This is getting very tense now. I love how you're setting up the coming confrontation. Just the right amount of foreboding. Every day, it's confirmed what an absolute worthless heel Daddy is, and we're looking forward to what he has coming to him. I love Dewey's subtle threat to him with the coyote story.

Yes, things are heating up just a bit each chapter. Matthew is probably one of the worst characters who I've ever written about. Thank you for this. Gretchen

Wow Gretchen! This was outstanding. Dewey is starting to feel his oats. I, for one, would like to see him get some revenge on his hateful father. Obviously the man is outright evil and full of mischief. Perhaps the law of sowing and reaping is about to be visited upon him. Well done gal!
Have a blessed day.
Tom

I think Matthew will get his come uppance. Lol. He's a terrible excuse for a human being. Thank you so much for this kind review and the encouragement. The six was a nice surprise as well. Gretchen

And I bet he'll wait until Dewey is asleep before he strikes. It's not Dewey who's the coward, people like Matthew act when they know they'll win. I hope Dewey gets the shovel and swipes his father around the head!! This was a really well written chapter, Gretchen. I love this story, and I'm getting really excited to see Dewey become the man he was going to be before his father was so brutal. Well done, my friend. :) Sandra xxx

Thank you so much. Yes. It's coming to a head rather quickly. Matthew is doing to show his ass one too many times. Thank you, my friend for this amazing review and rating. Gretchen

Oh my goodness Gretchen, this is a powerful write, I love the Coyote story that seems so appropriate for this man's two sons, as he cannot keep an eye on both of them at the same time. I don't know what you have planned for this story but this chapter was a pleasure to read, revenge is in the wings, so well written and interesting, you are indeed a talented story teller Gretchen, love Dolly x x x

It is indeed revenge. Dewey might not be able to best his terrible dad, but coyotes work in pairs. Lol. Thank you for such a wonderfully encouraging review. Gretchen

I'm so happy to see you continue your story with Dewy and Huck. I'm starting to see signs that the daddy is up to no good. I can't wait to find out more. Great writing.
"Won't nothing biting." You might want to take another look at this. It didn't make any sense to me when I was reading it. Maybe rephrase it. Excellent Job.

Oh, God, I hope Matthew doesn't hit his son Dewy. Dewy sounds ready to fight and Huck is confronting him too. Maybe they will be like foxes.

Another chapter I love.

You have a good imagination to build the tension with the knowledge the two boys have about what their father is really about. Dewey wants only one thing now as he watches his father, waiting for him to be vulnerable.

You are spot on. Huck is a little more subtle. But he's just as upset with his father. Thank you so much. Gretchen

What an awful man, calling one's child names is despicable, they are a gift from God and precious, they deserve respect and nurtured love, not contempt and derision, I hate abuse above all things, beautifully written Gretchen, blessings Roy

Matthew is unlovable. And he has no room for love in his own heart. Thank you for this. Gretchen

Matthew Strait is going after Miss Lynn, isn't he? I hate that man myself. Thank you for sharing this story with us.

When his hand is on the screen door handle I finally speak. "You forget to bring our fishing pole home, Daddy?" (comma after 'handle,' and one after 'speak,)

"So, you can speak," Daddy laughs. (speak.)

Thank you, Barbara. I haven't found anyone who doesn't want him dead. Lol. Thanks for the edits. Gretchen
