My husband was in Spain during the Franco years, so I have heard of Franco's rule. This is a strong and powerful poem to remind us that we are a nation of immigrants.

Your poem reiterated what I told my granddaughter. She didn't understand why the fourth of July was so special. I said because we are equal here. We can choose our leaders, say what we want and read or write what we want. We are truly free. But freedom costs, some more than others. Spectacular poem, Gypsy. Gretchen

When I studied in Spain, Franco was still the dictator. As of right now, we still have some freedoms, but not as many as we used to have. We've lost some freedom of speech, and a few others. Hopefully, they'll return. Thank you for sharing this wonderful presentation with us.
