Very well-written.
Question: did being an only child make you a selfish person as you got older? Were you able to share your time with others or was it a struggle. I know some only children and they seem challenged when it comes to sharing the most basic things-like time.
You paint a very clear picture of the only child. Good job.

I don't remember being accused of being selfish. My parents always had me in church and that might have helped or maybe I just ignored the criticisms. I also went to boot camp at 19 or 20 and that really helps a young man keep himself in perspective! Thanks for your thoughtful review. BTW, God gave me one strong yankee wife and 3 daughters: talk about a man who knows his place!

This was a very nice poem that reminds us that whatever birth order we have claimed, there are upsides and downsides to it all. Thanks for inviting us to reminisce with you some of the ups and downs of being an only child. You reminded us of things that I wouldn't have thought about. Thanks.

Thank you for stopping by my place. I saw this prompt, immediately said, "I got this!" I had written it in 19 minutes! So, the story was there, in my head, just waiting to get out! Glad you liked it!

You are most welcome for the review. I am glad that your story was released. Sometimes I have too many things rattling around in my head and they just need to get out. L O L I relate to your sentiment.

Author,
I love this poem. It's honest and insightful. I have 3 siblings, and at one time we all wished we were only children. But looking back on all the fights (my sister dented my flute by striking me over the head, for example,) I'm glad I had brothers and a sister to help me through the hard times.
I guess either way, only child or no, has its advantages and disadvantages.
Good luck with this great poem!

My wife was one of three daughters and God gave us three daughters. Having been an only child, I was not pateint with kid quarrels and certainly not any violence. My wife reminded me that I did not understand because of my being an only child. But, we all survived and are still good friends. This was such fun to write - a real trip down memory lane. Thanks for stopping by!
