Your childhood sounds wonderful. What a lovely family you had your description of their personalities was excellent. Speaking as a chocoholic I am very impressed you had a stash of candy. Growing up in a RC family we had give up something at Lent so I would give up chocolate and sweets it wasn't easy LOL. I look forward to reading your full memoirs.
All the best
Jill:)

Wow! You remembered and understood a lot at three years old. I remember being afraid to walk, and I remember being four years old. My main memories don't start until I was five. However, your story is very interesting, especially about the candy bars, the black ladies and saving money. I didn't get an allowance until I was in high school. Your life growing up was quite different from mine in the big city. Your story should be very interesting.

Thank you so much for a great review. My allowance increased to a dollar when I was in highschool but Dad would give me money for something specific like a malt or movie and sometimes I save that to. Sometimes I save lunch money and take a sandwich to eat at lunchtime.

I remember that watermelon seed story - it was quite the "old wives' tale" and I remember you said it was told to you and the fear it caused. I'm glad we don't hide information that is important now. It's just hard to know how to give enough information that wouldn't spark too much curiosity in such a bright three-year-old. These days, we have too much information at too young an age for kids. Sigh.

It hope no one uses that line any more. Kids are likly wiser that they should be false information isn't helpful.

I think the blueprint for how we live out lives is formulated very early in life, more than we'll ever know, my propensity for dreaming was formed then. I never really knew any of my grandparents so that I never knew, but there were others. Beautifully written Beth, blessings Roy

Thank you for sharing this memoir with us. I've never thought about ranking the people in my life. As I'm thinking about it, I'm not sure I can. It seems they were all equally important to me, and each of them in a different way.

Thank you Barbara. All my families were important in their own way. I don't know why I ranked them, but actually I think that ranking had to do with how much of my time was spent with each one rather than how much I looved them. I didn't I could live withont any of them.

Yes, people sure have changed. Like you, I could squeeze the buffalo off a nickel when I was younger. But my children, I wanted to give them all the things I never could have. Which turned out to be a mistake. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Ric. My kids sure never learned how to hold on to any money that came their way. If they ever get without a source of income, they will likely still turn to us for help. Not that most of mnd hasn't already done that.

A very lovely story of your memories with your family. I'm amazed that you still remember memories and events when you were three years old. I'm afraid I cannot. Thanks for sharing.

Another fascinating and insightful post about your childhood. How much better it would have been if the basic facts of life were explained in a natural way. These days of course, it's the other extreme - too much information far too early. Very nicely written.

Thank you Wendy. You are right about kids today knowing more than they should. There must be some wise parents out there that manage to get just the right amount of accurate information to them.

The thoughts of an innocent child here Beth and I am surprised you remember so much of your childhood and the people around you with their likes and dislikes. I think you were adored as a child and people were sometimes untruthful as some subjects were taboo. I have always been honest with my Grandchildren as I don't want them to misunderstand things in life, but times have changed now. I remember asking my Mother some difficult questions and she avoided telling me the truth. I enjoyed your post Beth, love Dolly x x x

Thank you Dolly, I never lied to my children either when they asked hard question but I tried to explain things on their level. Mom didn't really lie, but she avoided things. Gtandma just told me something to get me to shut up.
