Hi John,
I've been trying to get back to this delicious essay for days. And now I've missed what could have been my favorite day of the year... don't let Jade hear that... of course it our wedding anniversary and Jade's birthday:)
It seems I'm time poor, physically poor, yet mentally and emotionally rich which has my want lagging behind my intention.
You're a total crack up my Brother... and now you're talking my language... not only food, but sandwiches!
I rarely eat meat these days, but on the odd occasion when the stars align I've been known to chow down on lamb, of corn beef if Jade has cooked it... perfect for the humble sandwich on my homemade sourdough bread with Jade's famous choko pickles, (loved by everyone who partakes in the tasting of) It's actually getting harder to keep up the demand of demands from friends and family for said pickles!
But stay on topic James!
Okay John, what 'bout the calzone, it can be a pizza, even though technically it's not, right?
Com'om, a hot dogs' a sandwich... that a resounding no from me, a technicality... yep, I'm calling it... I'm wanting you now to go back and re examine the calzone:)
Much prefer my BLT's on a split roll lightly toasted... and hey, while you're at it, throw on a couple of slices of avocado will you? A BLAT:)
I remember the Dagwood from the cartoon... man that was some kind of wrong and yet it wasn't!
French dip sounds interesting.... mmmmm!
Who doesn't love a peanut and jelly(jam) sandwich... I pity that fool! Then you have the substitute of jelly for honey... and if you're real adventurous add a banana into the mix.
Yes, the pilgrim, I could easily stomach that!
Go Number 1, okay number two as well.
Com'on, now you're getting all fancy on us... gold leaf, caviar? I'm a simple man with simple food needs... if there's food, I needs it!
You really know how to get the art of salivation happening John... I'd suggest you are a master of it!
Love your work Brother!
With our thoughts we create...?
did someone mention food!
Kindest regards,
James.

I do enjoy creating sandwiches. I had many more I could?ve added but I didn?t want to bore done readers. You certainly would not have been bored.
Your review is outstanding my brother as always. You are a true amigo!
Thank you for reading this and for the six stars?

You're making me hungry. And I think you should open a deli. I remember a documentary on pbs about Great Old Hot Dog stands, and another one about great roadside stands. I think the soul of society that was so colored by all these little small businesses is being trampled on today by the phenomenon of the chain store. There's almost none of these great old sandwich delis left. And all these wonderful local recipes and creations are disappearing into memory. I think its sad. Chain stores might be cheaper, they might be more economical, but they have no soul. The people working in them look like they want to be somewhere else, doing something else. estory

Estory ? this is a great review, thank you kindly.
My dream was to own a deli, never came to fruition. I?m retired from Restaurant Depot and am working at an Italian market that opened 6 months ago and working more hours than anticipated or want to. But it keeps me young (I?ll be 69 in a month).
Thank you for reading and sharing?

Your sandwiches all sound great, especially the one with mortadella, one of my favorites! You let one slip by you, though, the Twinkieweener, made famous by Weird Al Yankovic in the movie "UHF", in which a frankfurter is inserted into a twinkie that has been split down the middle. YUM!

I don?t know if I would classify that with a "yum", but to each his own.
Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts with me.
I always appreciate the feedback.

Lol. I loved this ! Who would have thought one could write so much about something as simple as a sandwich?
I love most of the types you listed. I actually have made The Pilgrim as a "let's be creative with our Thanksgiving leftovers!" I have to confess, I thought I was creating an original.. had never actually heard it had a name before.
Thanks for sharing this fun writing with us....
And now I'm hungry... better go raid my fridge to see what kind of sandwich I can conjure up! Lol

As much as Thanksgiving is one of my favorite meals, the night time plate of seconds (about 9:00 pm) ranks right up there!
Thank you for reading.

Again, I have said you should be a food writer. I remember, a while ago, you wrote about the food at the ballpark. It was mouthwatering, like this article about sandwiches. I do not see any need for changes. I am a simple sandwich girl. Ham and swiss with lettuce on toasted bread. Have a blessed day.

Liz,
Always great to hear from you and there is absolutely nothing wrong with your sandwich of choice!
Thank you?

Nicely written.
Ham snd Swiss on a Kaiser roll - oops
Sorry to throw a wrench in the works, but a hot dog does not consist of two slices of bread. It is a single bun split to a 'V'. And the dog is not between, but 'on', or 'in' the 'V'.
The same holds for a taco, or and of the other Mexican entrees where stuff is wrapped in a single tortilla.

Thanks for reading and sharing. Tacos etc were never included as a sandwich because they are not "bread" related therefore disqualified.

Wow you have described some very fancy sandwich fillings!! I am just a boring old gal who enjoys plain food like egg and bacon sandwiches, cheese and tomato, salmon and tomato. No fancy sauces for me but we are all different.

I love getting cheeses from the deli. Baby Swiss is a favorite. The thinner the better. There is a Mexican farm cheese whose name I can't remember that was divine. Smokehouse cheddar is great with beef. And there are so many breads out there. I make a great Dill Bread, Rosemary bread is great with Bibb lettuce, Thin slices of purple onion, Bread and butter pickles, and sliced roasted chicken & mayo. I am starving. Karen

Lately you always make me hungry. You write well, or I would not bother responding.
But I was reminded I need to eat, and I boogied off. Karen
