A very informative and very interesting story about your travels and about Oregon: I have not thought about Burma Shave signs in years. This was a pleasant reminder of those roadside signs.

Jeez, Jake, there is a world of research and life in here. It's quite overwhelming but utterly fascinating. I will only make one particular point, that I had only ever heard of Burma Shave from Tom Waits' song. Now I know what he's warbling on about. Thank you.

yeah Burma Shave dates me. The signs were everywhere in the US from 1925 to 1975 when the interstate highway system banned roadside advertisements as a distraction. The company went under about then. You can find a lot of their "poems" on line. They were great three line cowboy poetry style poems.
