Congratulations on your milestone post, Barry! How wonderful! This is a lovely offering of the place similar to what I know, as my family loves the ocean, especially our mother who was and avid fisherwoman. We sprinkled her cremated ashes at her favorite pier in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Thank you for sharing. Sending you my very best,
Sally :))

Sally,
Thanks so much for taking time to review my poem. Glad you enjoyed it and that it reminded you of your mother's fishing prowess. She is now back in a place she loved.
Take care and enjoy every day.
All the best

Your photo was great, but the poem was better. I really enjoyed how it flowed off the paper. To me it rolled off the tongue with rhythm. I loved the rhyme and the meter. In fact, I loved everything about this.

I may have read you previously but as you commented on my RANT I felt I owed you one, and thus I selected THE PIER because like a herbal remedy any and everything oceanic draws this old tar to it. It is the place serenity begins.
Where was this structure you wrote of? Where do you live?

I agree with you in respect to the place where the serenity begins is the ocean. There is no particular structure I wrote about. Just a collection of memories of visits to them from early childhood through to fairly recently. I live in Australia and have travelled to many places that have piers, containing all sorts of entertainment and food venues.
Thanks for your review. It is really appreciated.
Take care

This is a very unique and clever idea for a well penned and beautifully executed poem. It has a slightly haunting note of nostalgia and longing for something gone forever. One suggestion, if I may...I think knell should be spelled knoll.

What an excellent Milestone post. Congratulations on your 50th. This piece is an excellent tribute to the lively history of the pier. It is timely with so many locations living in the ruins of the pandemic and the desolation of disaster.

I enjoyed this post. Growing up at the Jersey shore, I can relate to all the descriptive lines you wrote. It brings back pleasant memories that I relish, especially living about 80 miles north of where I once did. Thanks for sharing your work.

Congratulations on reaching this milestone! The poem 's rhyme and rhythm are exemplary! It really captures the romantic past of these Victorian constructions and the golden age of UK seaside resorts!

Beautifully written with wonderful descriptions of the demise of the pier. Memories linger in your mind of times of fun and ice-cream on the pier. Fishermen lined up hoping for a run. Arcade games a' plenty, especially for the young. Now the sea will take her and the winds will break her. Memories left of good times enjoyed.

Congrats on the big 50! You did yourself proud with this six worthy poem. Make mine virtual, please as I'm out for the week...
Excellent rhymes, special touch of "w" alliteration in lines 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11.
Love that you engaged my senses! I saw it, heard it, smelled it...
The pier, like life, ages and rusts and somehow maintains the patina of memories that do not ever fully erode!
