Sorry I'm so far behind in reading your book. It's great! I love the cliff-hanger ending of this chapter. Everyone wants to know what's in the box, I'm sure. I'll catch up on the next chapters as soon as I'm able. Glad you're back. Blessings. Carole

You made sure the reader must keep reading if we want to know what is in the box. As I said, mystery and crime stories are not my favorite genres. However, this story has captured my interest. Well done.

This is an excellent chapter. Thank you for answering my question, so this is a prequel. I love the hook at the end. I can't wait to see what is in that safety deposit box. I do not see any room for improvement. I look forward to the next chapter

This is well written and I could follow the chapter easily. Lance does concern me. As his lifestyle doesn't convey how he got through college, law school and the bar. The bank scene was interesting. I don't know how serious this story will be, but no ID was asked by the bank of Lance? and Miss Trainor was surprisingly unprofessional.

Well, now you'll have me sitting around all day wondering what's in the box. LOL. I guess at my age, a curious mind is a good thing, it can keep me excited enough that I don't forget. Thanks for sharing.

Couldn't have you sitting around all day, now could I? Posted your answer a few minutes ago. But I must admit, it will only lead you to more questions. LOL

Hope you are well and life is treating you good.

You know how life is. It only gets good long enough for us to catch our breath. But as we've gotten older, we don't expect it to stay good too long anyway. LOL. I'm guessing things are much better for you and yours, or at least I hope so! Smiles and hugs back at ya! Ric

It's still a dark place because life doesn't like to give up that stranglehold it has on us, but in order to save me, I had to pull back from some of it. I lost some close family members this past few months and I was pushing myself to join them. Then I realized, I had so much more to do,,, like sharing a smile or two with you.

"Oh, merciful heaven. What have I gotten myself into now?"
That's a cliff hanger and a half if you ask me! We all would like to know what's in the box! We have no choice but to wait for the answer to that question. Well done, Carol Dear. Nancy:)

    Good morning, Nancy

Couldn't leave you standing on the edge of a cliff, now could I? I've posted your answer, but I can't guarantee it won't raise a basket full of other questions. LOL Thank you for enjoying the story.

A cliff hanger. You did a great job describing the scene when Lance visited Rupert and how he was scared by the butler's name "Satan". I can't wait to read the next chapter.

Excellent.

    Thank you, John

I am glad I am back too! It was a dark place. I am thrilled to be in the "bright light" of my friends and knowing they are enjoying my writing. I wasn't sure I would ever be here again but I am certainly thankful it worked out that way.

So now the mystery is introduced, along with new characters are carefully created - Mr. Rupert Blackwell, and his strange butler, Satan, as well as a frightened Attorney, Lance Fenway. It will take awhile to get all these characters straight, but I look forward to it. It's a great story so far, Carol. Well done.

One little spag: "Then, deep in thought, she startled him when she approached from a different direction, ..." - the adjective phrase, 'deep in thought' is misplaced, describing 'she' rather than him. Suggested fix: He was deep in thought when she approached from a different direction, startling him ...
