Babe refers to Babe Ruth, a Yankee (NYY) baseball great from the 1930s. This poem refers to a true story.

This happened on October 1, 1932 in Game 3 of the World Series. Babe was at bat with 2 strikes and 2 balls. Babe pointed his bat to the 440 foot centerfield while Cubs players and fans heckled him. On the next pitch he hit a whopping 500 foot homer. The Yankees swept the series 4-0.

When Yankee Stadium was built, Babe hit the first homer during the home opening game on 4/18/23. The ballpark was called The house that Ruth built.

He also hit 3 homers in Game 4 of the 1926 World Series. He hit the first ever homer in an All-Star game on 7/6/33. He batted 100 (4 for 4) including 3 homers on 5/24/35. Babe played 22 seasons (1914-1935). He was a 12 time American League home run leader and played in 7 World Series. He had 714 career home runs, 2,213 RBIs, 2,062 bases on balls (forced walks), and his on base slugging record of 1.164% still stands today.

George Herman Ruth, Jr. was one of the five original inductees in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936.
