Terror of the Mind

by Y. M. Roger

The sky turned grey and fell today
And through the fog and murky mist,
I hear the calling whippoorwill,
A sound I never could resist…

And so in search of unknown ends,
I step into the shrouded haze,
Enfolded here I wonder why
The sky turned grey and fell today…

Again I hear that haunted call,
As dampness seeps and sight grows dim,
The sky turned grey and fell today
And through its depth my body swims…

The whippoorwill is everywhere,
My body’s chilled and darkness reigns,
I search but all I can recall:
The sky turned grey and fell today…

A kyrielle is made of quatrains that rhyme. Each stanza (that is a quatrain) has a line that repeats, so a line from a previous stanza. That line usually (but does not necessarily have to) be the last line in the stanza. Each line in the poem has eight syllables. There is no limit to the number of stanzas. Usually there are three or more stanzas. Any type of rhyme scheme can be used. More information and an example.
