The Great Divide

by Sally Law

Two long lines have been forming for quite sometime.Thousands of years have gone by, and the lines of humanity continue to assemble; adding to it just like Jacob Marley added to his ponderous chain--link by link and yard by yard. Lines filled with human beings, winding throughout this earth, stretching further than one can truly comprehend.

The lines come to a certain point, an ever fixed point, and from that point the lines go left or right, but never straight. All of mankind comes to this point, and every person must choose--either go right or left. It seems like a simple choice, but for some reason, it is not.

Some grow weary of the line they are in. They have always been in that particular line that bears left because everyone they know and feel comfortable with are there. Hearing the news that the other line may be better, they study the line curiously. Could the other line possibly lead to a worthier place?

People in the left line have been known to jump to the other line. Name calling and insults were hurled at them the very moment they defected.

Others on the left don't even care which line they are in. They are pushed and shoved; moved along by the crowd. At times, it is so massive and overcrowded it can move a person along in such a way their feet barely touch the ground; being swept up in the throng. For too many, it doesn't even occur to them to contemplate the other line--the only other choice.

Then we have the right line. This is a much smaller line, and this group, too, trudges along in worn-out shoes moving towards the fixed point. They wonder if the line on the left is better than their choice. Yes, they are tempted to try the left line, although they have an understanding where it will lead. However, a reward is awaiting them for their perseverance in the right line. A voice from within drives them forward encouraging their every step.

All day long the left side calls out to the right side, "come over here with us." And, all day long the right side beckons the left to reconsider the obvious end.

As time edges closer and closer to the end of all things, the gap between the lines becomes a gulf. Left moves more to the left and right moves more to the right, and middle ground seems to be no more. The differences in the two lines are now so apparent and starkly contrasting, it's difficult to believe we all are living on the same planet.

The lines will not go on forever as some may think. There will be a day when all of humanity will have reached the fixed point, the fork in the road so to speak. Each person will have to make that final selection; bear right into eternal life, or bear left into eternal destruction.

Someone already occupies the center--the place in the middle of the great divide. He is the bridge in this great chasm. All mankind was given this God-man as a gift from God himself. His name is Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Every single individual who has ever lived will have to reach this point in the line, and decide:

What will I do about Jesus's gift of salvation to me?
Which way will I choose to go?

No one is exempt from choosing right or left, and you cannot hide out in either line. All must choose as God has given us a superior selection compared to a really bad one. It should be a no-brainer.

I made the choice early as I am traveling through life now in the right line, the one that leads to life. I know if I died before I finished this article, I would be with Jesus. I have believed and received His sacrifice for my sins, and that he rose from the dead.

If you are in the left line and headed towards eternal death and separation from God, you can change that right now along with your eternal address. Come on over to the right line, and cross that great divide through Jesus Christ from death to life!

~ "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
(Romans 10:9-10).

~ "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life." Who is it that has the Son? It is those who have believed in Him.
(1 John 5:11-13).

~ "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
(Matthew 7:13-14).

~ Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except by me." (John 14:6).
