Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australian and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. and the contributions and suffering of all those who have served.
Observed on 25th April each year Anzac day was originally devised to honour the members of of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli against the ottoman Empire during World War 1 .
In 1915 Australian and new Zealand soldiers formed part of an Allied expedition that set out to capture Constantinople capital of the ottoman Empire which was an ally of Germany during the war. The ANZAC force landed on 25th April 915 and met fierce resistance and the war became a stalemate and dragged on for 8 months before evacuations from both sides occurred.
The Allied deaths were over 56.000 including 8,709 from Australia and 2,721 from new Zealand Also 87.000 Turkish deaths (Wikipedia/org/wiki/Anzac day)
Anzac day commemorations are held in nearly every town and city in Australia and New Zealand and also includes services at ANZAC Cove in Gallipoli.
