In the Grand Scheme...

by jmdg1954

Let me introduce ya'll to the "grand" portion of my family; Aiden, Ryder, Aries and Snow. Not seen in the photo is Aria, soon to be our newest "grand" member. She's scheduled to arrive... wait, scheduled doesn't seem to be the correct word, one schedules a teeth cleaning, not the birth of a baby. Lets say her grand entrance will be near the end of February, maybe early March. She'll tell us when it's her time!

In the photo, Aiden, my three-and-a-half year old granddaughter is the one with the long blonde hair. She will turn four in June and the cool thing about her birth date is she shares it with her Daddy. On a daily basis, sometime two and three times a day, she loves to play dress up. Aiden doesn't do this in mommies clothes, but in one of her many Disney princess dresses. You name one, I think she'll have it.

Ryder, is my grandson and he turned two this past Wednesday, He celebrated his birthday by visiting his pediatrician. Not an unusual occurence, but his purpose became two-fold; one, he was scheduled for a routine check-up and two, for a surprise special need unbeknownst to the doctor. On Monday, he was playing on the living room floor. When he stood up to do whatever went through his mind or caught his eye, he losy his balance and stumbled towards the fireplace. He stretched out his left arm to help regain his balance (because he help his precious Anna doll in his right) and ended up leaning on the glass door in front of the fire. Ouch! The following are two texts from Christina, my daughter-in -law:

Text 1 - It pretty badly blistered the whole palm but he is still able to play like normal... just one handed.

Text 2 - It has ointment and a pad and a sock wrapped around it. But his fingers and palm is so blistered and swollen we had to help him drink milk and eat. The blistering has gotten bigger but Rob says that's what happened when his work blisters heal (readers note that Rob is a Banquet Chef for Omni Resorts) hopefully they just don't pop. He       has an appointment on his birthday so we will have the doctor look at it and make sure its healing well. I rinsed and put ointment on it about four times today to keep out dirt , dog hair and germs

The doctor indicated although it looks horrendous, it will heal just fine. He prescribed a medicated ointment to ensure it heals properly.

There's a mystical connection between my son, Rob, Ryder and fireplaces... When Rob was four, he decided to play Superman and proceeded to take a flying leap off the couch. His forehead met the brick apron of the fireplace. Luckily for him he didn't split his head open. The gash was straight as a razor cut just under his hairline. Twelve stitches later Doctor Bonacker assured us we would never notice the scar once it healed. She was right!

Dag-gum fireplaces...

I called Ryder for his birthday but he wasn't in the mood to chat. Aiden on the other hand was one chatty little Princess Jasmin. I presume that's the girlish part of her growing. She told me all about Ryder's "accident" as she put it and how he fell "into" the fire. Now Doctor Mommy puts the medicine on his hand to make his "ouchie" all better.

Aiden also informed me of one more very important fact stemming from Ryder's birthday. When Ryder woke up on that morning, there were over fifty multi-color balloons strewn all over the bedroom floor. In everyone's excitement of hooping and hollaring and dancing, Daddy stepped on the only pink one, and 'popped' it. That's some serious stuff to a child just under four.

Okay, now let me introduce the "grand" puppies. The little charcoal color dog is, Aries. He is an eighteen month-old Dabbler Dachshund and a little yapper who is happy and content sitting on your lap having his belly rubbed. His one phobia -  stairs and a refusal to climb either up or down the stairs. They can put him on there front porch for fresh air and not worry about him running off. Because at his short stature, they will never find him in the woods that surrounds there home.

The light furry puppy is named, Snow. She is part Labrador, part I-can't-remember-for-the-life-of-me-what-she-is. Just under eight months old, I'm told size wise she is probably done growing and when fully matured and developed is expected to weigh approximately seventy pounds. That'll be a large mouth to feed. But for now, her energetic playfulness keeps Aiden and Ryder amazed and laughing. Me, with her fur being genuinely soft and her body yet to fully develop its muscle, I feel I can fluff her up like a pillow and rest my head on her for a nice long nap.

I thought the picture Christina sent was an awesome candid shot and wanted to share this with you. In summary, in a few short weeks, Rob and Christina will have three children under the age of four, two dogs under the age of two and a Poppa (that's what they call me) under the age of, well never mind that fact. See ya'll...
