A Birthday Surprise

by Sandra Stoner-Mitchell

Santa woke up and then looked at the clock
He frowned and he listened to hear the tick-tock
He heard it then squinted again at the time
It told him it was just a quarter past nine!

Now Santa's clock wasn't the same clock as ours,
His tells him the seasons while ours tells the hours.
He sat up in bed and thought, 'This isn't right,
I ought to be sleeping! It should still be night!'

He looked out the window, the snow had all gone!
The sun was out shining, so what had gone wrong?
He went to his workshop, but no elves were there,
He went to the toy box, and it was still bare.

Now something had happened so what could it be?
He looked in the mirror, 'Well that looks like me!'
He went to the stable and looked all around,
Not one little reindeer was there on the ground.

He scratched his head and pulled on his long beard,
So had he gone crazy? 'Twas something he feared.
Then all of a sudden from out of nowhere,
He saw lots of children were all standing there.

They came right up to him with big toothy grins,
And holding his hands they all pulled him back in.
Then to his delight, which he couldn't disguise,
They gave him a present ... his Birthday surprise!
