The Rose Door

by fairydancer

on the small rose door
a brass scrolled-hook cleaves
to a lilac dressing gown

pure white linen lies starched
upon the princess bed
cascaded in veils of cerise voile

and golden dancers twirl
in rays of pure white
dripping through the skylight

yet behind the door
lies a swarthy world
where a queen slowly drowns
in a lake of tears
the sum of all her fears

while her king sits alone
dreaming of the girl
in the lilac dressing gown
