Thanksgiving

by BethShelby

When the turkey's in the oven,
and the dressing has been made...
When the pies are slowly cooling,
and the table has been laid...

When the house is looking festive
with fall colors everywhere,
and aromas from the kitchen
freely permeate the air...

When the kinfolk are arriving
with their faces all aglow,
and the house rings out with laughter
with kids running to and fro...

Then the feast day we're observing
makes us feel as rich as kings,
as we take time to be thankful
for the joy that family brings.

For those of you are not from America, Thanksgiving is an American Holiday celebrated on the last Thursday in November. We celebrate it in honor of the first Thanksgiving the pilgrims from England celebrated to give thanks for making it though the year and having bountiful crops. The first years were very hard on the Pilgrima and many of them died. The first Thanksgiving was a large feast celebrated with the Native American Indians.
