Wise Guy

His boss’s words echoed in his head. “Don’t screw this up.”
“I've got this!” Mack chuckled and slammed the door shut. “You’ll never escape, Jackson!”
A muffled yell came from inside.
A hiss filled the air. Gas seeped through the vents into the locked room.
Mack chuckled. “Sweet dreams, Detective.”
Click.
The lights flicked on. Cold steel pressed against Mack’s head.
“Yeah — sweet dreams,” a voice drawled.
Mack froze, recognizing her voice. He whipped around.
Detective Jackson’s gun fired.
Blood oozed. Mack gasped, “Who’s in —”
Jackson shrugged. “Another wise guy I was chasing before you rudely interrupted me.”
