Jingle My Bells

by Amanda Geering

The time has come to deck the halls
Mom drags out her Christmas balls
Dad is clueless when it comes to decor
His contribution resembles a jolly war
With a long sigh mom changes the scene
Dads none the wiser with her intervene
Decor redone and mom at ease
Dad sets his eye to the Christmas trees'
With a whip and a flash his decor is complete
Mom stares at him with feelings of defeat
Moms balls are shuffled and looking a mess
She's patient at first as not to cause stress
As dad leaves to decor some more
Moms balls are moved into better restore
With a watchful eye and a smile so sweet
Mom suggests dad does something neat
Off to the store your helpful self goes
A "honey do" list as long as your arm
She waves him farewell with her lovely charm
Time to redo everything dad has completed
She rushes as his bum is not long seated
He will be back soon to help some more
Moms balls, wreaths, lights, and decor
Finally look perfect as she finishes quick
She watches as he comes through the door
He doesn't blink twice at her organized decor
Clueless he stares day after day
Jingle my bells we sure did a great job
I sure helped pick up some slack
Dad says and she smiles behind his back

Christmas Poetry contest entry

Every year my husband “helps” me decorate and I redo it because I like things to be just right. I will let him think he’s doing a great job just like the kids but he doesn’t ever notice when I change his completed pieces. I will always love decorating with him and hope the memory stays forever as we get old together.
