A condemned man's life is spared seconds before execution
The Prisoner Waits
by Peter Jarvis
The author has placed a warning on this post for violence.
Frank "The Butcher Spinetti stood on the creaking trapdoor, the weight of the black bag pressing down on his brow. The noose tightened, a grim reminder of his fate, as the hangman prepared to pull the lever. Frank's heart pounding, as he thought of the violent life that he had lived - blood on his hands and shadows in his soul.
Just as the lever started to creak beneath the hangman's hand a shout echoed from outside "STOP -A REPRIEVE". The words sliced through the stillness, halting the execution. The black bag and noose were removed. Frank blinked his heart racing, uncertain of what this second chance might bring.
