Wanting Out

by RodG

The Prisoner Contest Winner

Jody Blackwell stared out the distant window at red-leafed trees, white clouds and blue sky.  He stifled a whimper as his captor stood only a few feet away, always watching.

Why am I here now? he wondered.  I’ve done all she asked and haven’t misbehaved.  Why must I stay?

For hours he’d been forced to sit there.  With her.  Would she ever release him?

Suddenly, she pointed at the clock.  And then she smiled at him and all the other prisoners.

“Okay, boys and girls.  School’s over and our vacation begins.  Happy Thanksgiving!”

Jody leaped from his desk, cheering loudly.
