My Visitation to a Friend
I went to see an old friend the other day
I could not let him down
I came to see him as if to say
I will not forget your gown
Was worn not to be shone
But was one to tell allegiance
As I know you were not alone
In your defense
As I stand and greet your day
To stand for all unknown
This placard is your array
Of one's like kindred sown
Walking in their own path
To take the torch you were handed
Stemming others wrath
they thought they commanded
If it was not for you my friend
they would have made another end
To what they would upon all descend
Their desolation for others to attend
For this was their wants to contend
All others freedoms would bend
To their own ideals prisons send
Their wrath to earths farthest end
I came to set the record straight
There are those who still care
To show all it is not to late
Here I came to say a little prayer
It has not gone the way you knew
What you sowed for us to fare
was finally laid to sod to do
Your own rights set aside to declare
Hello my friend I came to say
A place where you went for me
I came to be reminded always
The price you paid to keep us free
If one but remembers the price
Was not vain in paying to make
Freedoms stance sacrifice
Was never ever to forsake
Well my friend the day is late
I will promise once again to come
To be reminded such is fate
Your day was never lost by some
When to this place I will visit
The ground for which is your sod
Was given its final placard deposit
I’ll visit again, at the call of God.
