A Blank Verse Poem Contest Entry
Shared Majesty
The mountain high that touched the sky looked down.
"I see you there all bright and color full.
You think that you will steal the show from me?
You're here today...tomorrow you'll be bare.
You'll shed your dress and then you'll stand alone.
No one to stare, no one to care...you're done.
You're just another little trunk with limbs,
That shows up every Spring and Fall each year.
You dance a little while and then you're gone.
I've been here long before you were a twig."
The tree looked up and saw the mountain high.
"Your majesty just takes my breath away.
I'm thankful that you share a place with me.
I'm here to set the table at your feet.
I know that people come to visit you,
To see your rocky face and white-capped peak.
I'll give them shade before they start their climb.
I'll do my best to help them honor you.
They come and go, they won't remember me.
It's you they love, it's you I love...you see."
