Hollow Halloween

by Karen Cherry Threadgill

Don't go open your front door

I won't go out it anymore

I've seen enough, I don't need more

It just feels like one big chore

Candy is still missing from last year

What happened still remains unclear

I'd say there's plenty we can fear

So check the locks again, will you my dear?

I am not frightened any other time

What happens is much more than crime

It's more than bugs and dirt and slime

And, the point is I'm past my prime

It's all the kids coming dressed in gore

So many now I can't keep score

It chills me to my very core

All those trump masks at my door.
