Kingship

by Claire Tennant

For King and country, we petition

some folks are of British blood

Royalty has stood by this land

in war, torment, drought and flood

this country has stood by Great Britain

despite the aristocratic greed

from the convict era to the twenty-first century

Aussies, in their way succeed

*****************************

There are some ‘real’ Aussies, aboriginals 'they' say

who demand but not earn our respect

the breed of greed dictates their way

we are supposed to ‘genuflect’

Yet the King and his Queen visit

A member of greed stands to say

In effect, “You’re not my King, go away”

****************************

Her political voice, now silenced

her path as yet unclear

the King and Queen still respected

some folk cheer

ah well, it could be worse, I pray for the USA

whomever God has chosen will lead it

both representatives have feet of clay
