It has always been my favourite season.

Springtime In September

by Claire Tennant

The promise of warmer weather is overshadowed by rain

cherry blossom dressing the trees where pinks and whites remain

front gardens tell a story with colours of every hue

darkness is delayed daily by an hour or two

the sound of the motor mower, grass needs a trim

and the chances of a Nanna nap are slim

Spring my favourite season that none can emulate

except for the Creator and Master of my fate

picnics on the local beach or children at play

knowing in Australia, Christmas is not far away

I try not to think of summer’s heat on a spring day

instead enjoy the season’s peace, come what may
