Seasonal Rain

by Terry Reilly

Rain tumbling down from sullen skies
leaves icy shards which hang from trees.
Jack Frost reacts with due surprise.
His task? To make the slush refreeze.

Winter passes, Spring shoots peek through.
Rain tumbling down from sullen skies
speeds growth in flowers born anew,
pollen for bees and hoverflies.

Summer sun scorches, burns and fries.
Wilting vegetation is rife.
Rain tumbling down from sullen skies
Bestows its healing kiss of life.

Now copper-coloured leaves bestrew
the Autumn lanes as Nature lies
in wait for snow and ice, but, too,
rain tumbling down from sullen skies.
