Morn Billows and Eventides

by Gypsy Blue Rose

family will gather

   behind the cliff's edge—

their tears will overflow into the sea

and the ashes will ride

over morn billows and eventides

don't cry for me

   I won't leave you behind—

I'll always be near

as seabirds soar over waves

amidst flaming dusks and dawns

♦ ♦ ♦

don't be sad

I'll be in your heart and soul—

rejoicing as you grow

I'll kiss you every night

with dreamy lavender breeze

JISEI GOGYOHKA POEM (death poem) is a genre of Japanese poetry that offers a reflection on death coupled with a meaningful observation on life. It originated in Zen Buddhism The poem's structure varies from haiku to tanka or gogyohka. Death poems are typically graceful, natural, and emotionally neutral. Death is described as the imminent death of the poet OR metaphorically references such as sunsets, twilight, autumn, barren fields, falling leaves, bared trees, etc ... to suggest the transience of life.

Gogyohka is a five-line Japanese poetic form with no strict rules on syllable count but as brief as possible.
