The assassination attempt on Donald Trump is a shameful thing. Such unmitigated violence should never be an element in our political process.

I wonder, however, in the deep recesses of my mind, if the violence that Donald Trump inspired on January 6th is not somehow retribution ministered by the twisted mind of the shooter. Recall retribution is a term that Donald Trump so vehemently demands for himself and those who violently ravaged the Capitol. However, even if not the case, the dastardly event is a clear demonstration of the danger of the easy availably of guns in our country.

I wonder if now that Republican representatives love of guns has come close to causing the death of their leader, if they will continue their staunch refusal to pass sensible gun legislation. Because it seems abundantly clear that their support for the NRA and their greed for gun manufacturers’ money is spreading a deadly opportunity for gun violence throughout the nation.

I wonder if they will come to accept the fact of how dangerous our country has become not only for adults but especially for children. In 2022, The New York Times reported, “Gun violence recently surpassed car accidents as the leading cause of death for American children.” A bullet is the cause of the death of more children than any other reason.

I wonder if Republican law makers will ever act and join Democrats in endorsing sensible gun legislation, or will they persist in their quest to Make America the Wild West Again?
