Light Up the Sky

by Sueswrite

Our Friday night "hot-spot" routine was no different than any others from the past. The food, drinks and familiar faces with several conversations surrounded the local restaurant and bar. The DJ music entertained dancers in the next room.

My boyfriend and I had finished our dinner and were talking with a couple to the right of us, when we were approached by two young women who were employees at the business my boyfriend owned. Accompanying the girls was their male friend who we were introduced to. The couple to our right stood to leave and the girls claimed their seats. The young man stood amongst us and I noticed him to be a bit quiet with something on his mind.

Normally, I prefer to watch the dancers rather than participate, but for a reason unknown to me at the time, I became enticed to get up and dance. I focused on the newly met man and asked him if he would join me for a dance. The song was a fun hip-hopping tune from the 80's, and after a short hesitation, he agreed, so off we went to mingle with the dancing crowd who were laughing and obviously having fun.

The initial awkwardness of moving to the beat, didn't last long and quickly I found myself happy that I had chosen to ask my new friend to dance.

There was plenty of room to move around, so I became a bit bewildered when I suddenly realized someone had their hand resting upon my right shoulder. As I turned my head to the right to see who was trying to get my attention, the music and scattered voices I was hearing became barely able to be heard, and I could only focus on the petite elderly woman wearing a cotton house dress, with tiny pink flowers, adorned with a row of pink buttons. Her hair looked soft with a silvery shimmer. Her complexion was soft, pink and just perfect. How I noticed her characteristics was beyond me because the highlight of this adorable elderly woman was the amazing, loving, and beyond joyous smile that could have lit up the sky.

With her hand still resting on my shoulder, she began talking to me. I felt her loving energy pour into me as she spoke. "Please dear, please will you tell my grandson how overjoyed I am that he is finally out with friends. Tell him I am at peace now and I need him to be happy from now on".

I absorbed this message and instantly wondered if I had stopped dancing during the time I interacted with this woman. I wasn't exactly sure about anything except for relaying this message to this man I had just met less than an hour ago.

I looked away from this angelic, sweet lady, to connect with my new friend, and moved a bit closer so he could hear what I was about to say to him.

My first words explained that he would probably think I was a weirdo after he listened to this necessary story. Puzzled, he showed interest so I began.

"Something just happened to me that I really cannot explain, but you are the person meant to hear a message". I told him how I suddenly felt a hand resting on my right shoulder and turned to see an elderly woman, at least six inches shorter than me. I described her precise appearance and included how a crystal perfect smile emanated from her loving face. Her words to me were, "Please dear, please tell my grandson how overjoyed I am that he is finally out with friends". She wants you to know that she is now at peace and needs you to be happy from now on.

I turned to look back at her but she was gone. The music and fun increased it's volume in my mind.

I looked back at my dancing partner and he leaned toward me and said, "That is my Grandma. I have been so sad from missing her. I visited her grave today and am out for the first time since she passed one month ago.". He looked stunned but peacefully calm.

When the song ended, I took his hand, looked at him and added to the amazement that she said her name is Deloris. A tear glistened as it fell to his amazing and joyous smile, that surely lit up his sky!
