Humorous rhymed poem about brownies
The Brownies That Weren't There
The plate was full of brownies—so fudgy, smudgy, moist.
I spread some plastic wrap on top, chilled overnight by choice.
I really meant to give them to some darling neighbors—true!
But just around the stroke of twelve, I got the chocolate blues.
You always think, “One nibble, and I’ll get right back to sleep.”
How could I know those scrumptious brownies simply wouldn’t keep?
And then I thought, “They might taste better, with a walnut here
on top of all that frosting.” So the brownies brought more cheer
with chunky crunch of walnuts. And I ate up every one!
I wasn’t sticking to my diet—only thought, “How fun
these brownies are with added walnuts," munching with delight.
It’s just a fact—temptation’s back with vengeance each midnight!
But just to reassure you that I’m really not ill-bred,
next day I took some sugar cookies to my friends instead!

I must admit--this is a true story, except it wasn't midnight.
