civilized teens of the fifties

speak softly, love: 1959 version

by jim vecchio

speak softly love
so no one hears us in the parlor
curfew may be called
if they hear you holler

we can be romantic
just whisper in my ear
try not to get excited
don’t raise your voice in cheer

if they hear us-uh oh!
they may start to panic
so speak in gentle whispers
don’t sound like broadcast static

my heart goes hot diggity
when I take you out
So let’s mind our manners
and please try not to shout
