Prize possession lost now found

Ringing True

by Claire Tennant

Sapphire blue was her colour
From her eyes to her feet
the engagement ring, her prize possession
I fancied I would get a ring like that
it seemed unlikely
There was an eternity ring, too
thirty-six years together
a marriage made in Heaven
I, the only daughter, got the rings
but as God wanted it
I'd get my own
ruby and diamonds

Oh, horrors, the sapphires disappear
I thought stolen the day we
left the door unlocked
today, I found the prize possession
though the errant eternity has not come home
Why was I panicking?
any would-be thief would not tidy the room
before finding treasure
