Background postapocalyptic medieval setting. In the fictional land of Arrs an unknown black mist has taken over the bodies of humans. They become known as the tainted. |
There was no way we would complete our quest before the sun went down, so we purchased camping gear. After making arrangements and purchasing essentials from the market, we headed up the mountain. Demi is skilled in tracking, so I followed him as he picked up traces of their path. They were taking a zigzag route up the mountain. We got a third of the way up before we decided to set up camp. I set up the tent and Demi collected wood for the fire. We had just finished when we suddenly heard a noise. We immediately grabbed our swords. Out from the woods came a man with short brown hair and blacked out eyes. Once again, we have encountered a tainted. I stopped Demi before he moved.
"This is a good time for me to practice what I've learned. Just stay back for now and let me handle it."
Demi was reluctant but he agreed. I moved towards the tainted, sword in hand. It's eyes followed my movements. I stopped a little ways away from it but, for some reason, it was just standing still, looking at me. This was abnormal behavior, as a tainted would normally attack anybody who approached. Well if it won't move, I will. I ran towards it, my sword up high. As my blade came down, the tainted caught it with it's bare hand. It's hand was bleeding but it showed no response to the pain. I pushed my sword in deeper, pressing downwards. Blood poured down as I sliced through its forearm. I was about to go for it's head, but then I saw it. Mist was traveling up the wound, healing it as it went along. This wasn't an ordinary tainted. It was a mutant. Wow, I must have the worst luck. What are the chances of running into yet another mutant? I jumped backwards and my mind raced, as I tried to figure out how to deal with it. For some reason, the thing still wasn't moving. It was just watching me. I don't know what it's looking at. It's the freaky looking one, not me! Once again, I ran towards it, planning to go for it's eyes like I did in the last battle. This time it dodged. I pivoted and swung my sword again. I practice the sword combos Demi had taught me, but this damn thing was so good at dodging! Finally I hit it, slicing a long dash across it's chest. It furrowed its brows and out from it's palms, black mist ascended.
Ohhoho, here it comes! It's mist time!!!! I wonder if I can deal with it myself? Maybe I'll try a backflip. I'm kind of excited! At least I was...until a broad back and flaming sword got in my way. This man! He makes me do all that training and doesn't trust me at all! What was the point in all that work if he's still going to jump in front of me?! "Demi! What are you doing? How am I supposed to practice?"
"It started using the mist! Stand back! You can practice with me later." He yelled, as he continued fighting.
Is he serious? He has fire, not mist! Grrrrr. It's so frustrating. But I did as I was told, as this was not the time to be arguing. I sulkily watched Demi's swordplay.
"Look at me, not at her!" Demi growled. He grabbed it's jaw and turned it to face him. Then he slammed the back of it's head against the mountain slope.
Well that's completely unnecessary. If he can grab it's head, then he can chop it off. Is this a test? Am I supposed to be learning something? As I tried my hardest to figure out what I was supposed to be learning, the pissed off mutant had pierced through Demi's shoulder with a tentacle of mist. Then it threw him into a tree.
"Oh shit, Demi!!!" I ran towards him to see if he was okay. Unfortunately the mutant decided it was time for round two. Before I could get there, a large tentacle of mist was already speeding towards him. "Nooo!" I screamed, as I drew my sword as fast as I possibly could. And from my weapon, flew a blade of wind.
