Background
postapocalyptic medieval setting. In the fictional land of Arrs an unknown black mist has taken over the bodies of humans. They become known as the tainted.
"I can't believe they really left!" Brandy screamed. She had been ranting for a solid twenty minutes about Grand Duke Demetri.
"Brandy stop it. He's still royalty. In fact, since the crown prince was contaminated and had to be killed, he's the next in line for the throne. You should watch what you say!" Jer, irritated, reprimanded Brandy.
"Whose going to know unless one of you say something!"
When neither Taya nor Demetri returned they packed the buggy and went back to Jer's mansion in Taloff. However, when the next day came and neither of them had come to the mansion despite the weather, they couldn't help but worry. They couldn't send a messenger to their guild in Grenendale until the storm cleared. But the next day the messenger reported that neither had returned.
"What if they got stuck in the storm and their stupid asses got contaminated!"
"Haaaaah. You saw what his highness could do, Brandy. With those flames there's no way they got caught by the mist. He's protective of Taya so she'll be fine too." Derek was starting to get fed up with this loud woman. Sometimes he wishes he was more like Dave. Derek turned to look at Dave who was polishing his sword beside him, completely unbothered by the world around him. "If his highness uses his aura again we'll surely hear news of them. Until then there's nothing we can do."
"Speaking of which, I need to inform the authorities about the change in that mutant. It pains me to say it but his highness is right. There'll be a lot of trouble if we or any other group encounter a mutant like that again. Precautions need to be taken and strategies devised."
With that, Jer left the mansion. The content was too important to send a mere messenger. This needed to be dealt with swiftly and discreetly, before any of the general public finds out what happened in that village.
Tired of Brandy's incessant rambling, Derek went to the training ground to let off some steam. Dave quietly followed him. Brandy was left alone complaining to herself about irresponsible royals.
"That woman talks way too much!" Derek growled as his sword clashed against Dave's. "Is all that talking going to change anything? No; it's just going to frustrate the hell of everybody around her. Sometimes I envy you Dave. At least in your case she doesn't expect a response." Dave rose an eyebrow and hit back with a little bit more force."Ahhh, I know, I'm sorry. I'm just a little frustrated." Dave nodded his head in acceptance. They sparred until the sun went down.
