June Came So Soon

by Brian Mich

June Came So Soon: The end of June has just elapsed./Can scarce believe it came so soon./Comfort's gone./It's too damned hot,/And I could just swoon./Buy some booze,/Drink too much/And howl at the moon./Go to the beach,/Sing off-key/Feet burning in the dunes./July is nigh./The Fourth is here./The summer heat won't anon go by,/And fireworks suffuse the sky./Global Warming's here,/So cooler days have surely died./Sunblock is needed,/Or my skin is sure to fry./Cookouts and picnics make summer a joy./Movies and ball games are to me like a toy./Shakespeare in the park;/Discovery's "Shark Week" after dark./When late September is here/Summer again will disappear.
