Like I Used To
by Debra White
A poem lurks nearby
I feel it vibrating
see it glowing
hear it murmuring
I yearn to capture it
make it speak
or sing
or something
but how
my brain brims over
fuller than full
with doubt
with fear
with sorrow
just like my heart
so heavy beneath my breast
The poem mutters under its breath
taunting me
get a bloody grip
grab on tight
like I used to
I will
soon
I will
