Lovers are separated to different paths.
The Last Day

As she met him near their tree she remembered the look in his eyes the day before. She knew this was it. Their last day. She knew it was coming, but she had hoped it wouldn’t be so soon.
His presence had kept her going. The world would mean nothing without him. But at least he’d be alive.
Tears began to run down her face. He wiped each one away with his thumb and he put his forehead against hers. “I’ll always be yours,” he whispered.
She watched until he disappeared and wondered if any of it had been real.
