The Story-Teller

I've been asked many times
Where do I get my inspiration
Do I find it easy to write
How difficult is it to rhyme

I have been called a poet
Don’t get me wrong
I view this as a compliment
But I don't write poetry per se
My writing tells a story
I just tell it in a different way

That would explain the length of my poems
I have to include every detail
If I were to leave anything out
My stories would derail

You have to walk in the s
hoes of the reader
And read exactly as they do
What kind of story teller would I be
If I shirked this responsibility

I wish I'd started earlier
But writing takes persistence
I don't think I would have found it as easy
Without having life experience

I will happily accept the label of poet
Because poets have the talent of rhyme
But I'd rather be known as a story-teller
Who loves it so much
Her stories come out sublime

Lune Poetry Contest contest entry

I was compelled, (as I appear to be every time, before I begin to dictate), to explain where my writing comes from, and it's true. I tell stories that happen to rhyme. I can't seem to do it any easier way. 95% out of approx 600 poems are true stories
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
