Starting Over

by Stuart V. Witt

John:  Stop asking for sympathy.

Liz:  I need sympathy

John:  Why?

Liz:  Are you stupid?

John:  Is that how you show sympathy?

Liz:  Do you need sympathy?

John:  I do not need to be stung.

Liz:  Answer my question directly.

John:  Why?

Liz:  It is a matter of courtesy.

John:  I do not find you courteous.

Liz:  Are you going to cry?

John:  I feel like crying.

Liz:  We seem to have become each other.

John:  You are right.

Liz:  Do not be a cold fish.

John:  You win.

Liz:  Thank you.

John:  I am sorry I was a jerk.

Liz:  Shall I give you a second chance?

John:  Yes.  Please.

Liz:  You have it.  But don’t push your luck.
