This poem is a perspective into the construct of race

Brown, White, Mixed, History

by kleo

Bringing life to the room,

Reaching for the stars while you

Only have limited opportunities to

Win,

Never give up.

Wishing those dark things in the past didn’t

Happen.

It’s okay. As long as you can

Take what you learned, and realize that

Everyone has a purpose, unrelated to you.

Making people question your looks and think,

In their own twisted minds, “But there is a way

X people (insert race) should look.”

Except, genetics are tricky, and it

Delineates how my looks don’t define my whole.

Hundreds, no millions, of things

Ingrained, passed down from generation,

Sadly,

To generation.

Own what you know, and

Respect and understand what you don’t.

Your future is shaped by how you balance the two.
