A small tale of trauma on flesh.
Emily's Torso
by Leya Hunter
She touched her torso and wept. Scarred, torn up, memories on flesh.
“Emily, stop standing in front of the mirror, it never does any good”
“But mum, it’s only reflecting the truth”
“But it hurts, and I have to pick you up” voicing annoyance at her daughter.
The tight but stretchy compression garment rolled down her torso, covering all remnants of the past.
Instant emotional relief set in, out of sight out of mind, so she thought.
Emily dashed for the door and out into the street, happy to be jogging again.
That is where her worst fears were imagined.
