A War

by T.A. Walk

A war is finally over,

Now the politicians can cheer.

But the society’s on both sides of the fight,

Are subject to succumbing to the fear,

That war has cast upon them.

Veterans struggling to find their way and make sense of wrongs they’ve done via politicians toting power spouting lies unto the masses,

Now the masses are against those veterans because a false reality has been created to help those same politicians keep their lifetime passes.

Our youth calls for support for other countries still drowning in war while simultaneously condemning support for their own warriors who have fought,

Unknowingly raging against the very people who gave their time and dedication for the very freedoms they’re demonstrating their points with, without a second thought.

Babies are being born into homes ravaged by post traumatic stress, learning the behavior of the illness and mimicking what they’ve seen,

All so that in the end some company can offer more prescription drugs for a newly created mental health crisis that borders on the obscene.

See, a war is finally over,

And The politicians rest easy in riches.

But fear spreads like an airborne disease,

And the bodies begin to fill up their ditches,

Because war always comes home.

And so, now the battle lines have been redefined and placed right outside our door,

New ways for us to divide and turn on one another pop up more and more.

It’s like these people are rewriting the program or adding game expansions,

All so the public stays blind to reality and they get to keep their mansions.

Now a new war runneth over,

And politicians are running like roaches.

The public now has an important choice,

Either we take all our advice from the coaches,

Or shut down the war in our streets.

The time has come for Americans to stand firm against terrible weather,

Perfect or not, our forefathers built this country so we could persevere together.

The power government holds is dirty and it’s old,

And it needs to die before America is sold.

The power to stop this war is in the hearts of the American people,

No matter their background, or their race, or the shape of their church’s steeple.

The power we hold is unique in and of itself,

And it cannot be taken and just placed upon a shelf.

We were born into freedom but for freedom to stand,

We must unite every American and tear down what they’ve planned.

‘Cause liberty and justice for all will not be real,

If we do not find a way for our country to heal.

This was written as a potential submission for work addressing the human consequences and realities of war. Still debating whether it's good enough...
